Old Vines is composed of a variety of old sites from California that are either too small to be made into a vineyard designate wine or are “new” to the Turley family (and way of farming). Vines are anywhere from 41 to 129 years old, and a true representation of California old vine Zinfandel, hailing from vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Contra Costa, Amador and Paso Robles. The first ‘Old Vines’ cuvee was produced in 2000.
The 2021 Zinfandel Old Vines from Turley is fabulous. No, it’s more than fabulous. Bright, vibrant and full of life, the 2021 is an absolute delight. Floral aromatics, vibrant acids and a core of crisp, red-toned Zinfandel fruit all run through the Old Vines. I underrated this wine on release. Tonight, it is drop-dead gorgeous, both alone and with this menu. Superb. -- Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Bold and jammy but balanced, with blackberry cobbler, licorice and savory pepper flavors building tension toward briary tannins. Drink now through 2032. 9,000 cases made.—Tim Fish, Wine Spectator
The 2021 Zinfandel Old Vines has a medium ruby color and plush red and black cherries on the nose with accents of mushrooms, forest floor, savory spices and mint. The full-bodied palate is grainy and refreshing with generous berry fruit and a long, spicy finish. It's similar to the Juvenile with a bit more oomph, and it's just as easy to drink. - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
