The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts-Lieux includes slightly more Mourvèdre and comes from a cooler parcel in the northern part of the appellation. It has another level of purity and precision compared to the Trois Sources and has extraordinary notes of blueberries, cassis, black licorice, violets, and crushed stone-like minerality. Incredibly concentrated, massive, and yet perfectly balanced, it has no hard edges and is just an incredible tasting experience. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 20-25 years. Dark ruby, purple reflections, faint ochre brightening on the rim. Delicate fresh figs, black cherries, fine spicy nuances, candied orange zest, blackberries are in the background. Powerful, juicy, good complexity, fine touch of prunes, taut tannins that are well integrated, chocolaty and long, certain ageing potential, still needs its time. Drink from 2025.-Falstaff
With a nose that is like walking into a flower shop that sells fresh cherries, the wine is already just great. Rich, elegant, fresh, supple and pure, the layers of sweet, peppery red cherries, garrigue, spice and salty crushed rocks starts off strong and keeps right on going. The wine was produced from a blend of 60% Grenache , 20% Mourvedre , 10% Cinsault and 10% Counouise. Drink from 2024 - 2039-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider
A little more floral in style, silkier than the Trois Sources this year. It's a little more Northern in spirit than most this year, not quite so sunny. No Syrah in the blend here, plentiful Mourvèdre however, which performed well in 2019. From three parcels close to the limestone plateau, some clay, relatively high altitude and late ripening, with less exposition to the sun. Drinking Window 2020 - 2034 - Matt Walls, Decanter
