The 2022 Vieux Château Mazerat checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that saw the standard 80% new French oak. The 2022 Vieux Chateau Mazerat, 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. It waltzes out with flashy notes of black cherry compote, plum preserves, and blackberry pie, giving way to wafts of crushed rocks, tar, and Sichuan pepper with a touch of lavender. The full-bodied palate is laden with black and blue fruit preserves with firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy. In 2022, Vieux Château Mazerat is quite aromatic, with layers of nuance that continue to open with time in the glass. Pliant and dynamic, Vieux Château Mazerat is very nicely done. Intense, luscious and full of character, with black cherry, damson, baked plum, dark exotic spices, vanilla, cinammon, crushed dried roses, highly charged and full on, veers towards too much, so be prepared. 80% new oak for malolactic and ageing. 30hl/h yield. Richly scented on the nose, powerful and brooding, intense and in your face, overt and forward. Juicy and alive there's high acidity but it's extremely spiced and tense, cool and intense with a liquorice, spiced tang that fills the mouth and gives a spiced grip that's verging on too much. On the more powerful side, with tannins that are fine but massy and with a texture that gives weight and power but also tang and edges.
