A mid lemon yellow colour. Some ripe citrus on the nose. The wine is more discreet on the palate, with predominantly white fruit, a balanced elegance and medium length. A lovely nuanced finish as the wine starts to grow. Fine-boned for the vintage, I became steadily more impressed by this with time in the glass. Tasted: Burgundy.—Jeasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is terrific, bursting from the glass with aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers, crisp green apple, hazelnuts and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's ample and layered, with a taut, elegantly muscular profile and a long, penetrating finish. It's farmed by Germain's team, and that shows.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
The 2019 Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru comes from 0.80 hectares of vines up to 45 years old, located close to the woods. Unlike the other two Puligny Premier Crus, it comes from Girardin’s own vines. This has a more clinical bouquet of fine delineation and terroir expression, featuring crushed limestone, cooking apple and a light sea spray note. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and quite saline in the mouth, getting the saliva flowing. Good concentration on the finish. This is an excellent Puligny that should age with style. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Meida
