This is a massively concentrated and enormously structured wine with so much smoke and spice, but there’s also so much rose aroma that it comes off as charming rather than imposing. And the giant freshness at the finish pulls you back for more of this astonishing gewurz. Beautifully integrated touch of sweetness. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. –James Suckling
A tiny plot of 0.5 hectares produces only 1,500 bottles each year. As Olivier Humbrecht says, Rangen imposes its strength on the grape variety. It is true; there is a delicate bouquet of spicy, almost flinty, smoky and orchard fruit aromas. The palate, perfectly balanced, is slightly tannic, with a well-managed acidity that brings a long, airy finish. It’s a beautiful, classic example of this terroir. A textbook wine.
