Very smoky and flinty with lychee, papaya and star-fruit aromas. A very concentrated and super-silky gewurz that has none of the massiveness or bitterness towards which the wines of this grape so easily tend. And that in spite of more than 15% alcohol! Indeed, the freshness on the finish reminds me of the best 2016 gewurz, though here it is married to greater ripeness. Wonderfully silky, long finish. Fermented until November 2021. The golden-colored 2020 Gewurztraminer Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain opens with ripe pear, dark chocolate, coriander and flinty aromas. On the palate, this is a rich, fresh, lively, piquant and grapefruit-bitter Gewürztraminer with fine tannins and long salinity. The finish is very long and still somewhat bitter, but this is a great, powerful and age-worthy Gewürz. Bottled with 15.6% de facto alcohol and 2.5 grams per liter of residual sugar.
