From En Charlemagne, ex Domaine Laleure Piot. A healthy crop, the last picked on 3rd September, with six barrels made, two of them new wood. A powerful incisive white fruit bouquet, with oak showing in the little coconut notes behind. Lemon scented minerals to finish. At this stage a little hard to see into the complete wine, but I think there is plenty here for a long-term future. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2023.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Note: from a .30 ha holding in En Charlemagne on the Pernand side
Tasting note: Fresh and ripe aromas are comprised by notes of citrus confit, spice and just sliced green apple plus a discreet dollop of wood. There is borderline painful intensity to the dense, serious and palate staining medium weight flavors that are overtly mineral-driven on the tautly muscular and hugely long finish. Once again, more depth would be a plus but that should only be a matter of patience.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
