Shimmering ruby with garnet reflexes. Revealing nose with lush fruit of dark cherry and damson, a touch of tobacco in the background. Plentiful, finely, meshed, very well-placed tannin, bedded in mellow texture, delicious liquorice on the finish.-Falstaff
100% Sangiovese. Aromas of morel cherry, thyme, allspice and a hint of oregano. Medium-full, there is good acidity along with rich, well-balanced tannins, nicely integrated wood notes and excellent persistence. Beautifully made, with notable typicity, this offers excellent freshness. Approachable now, this will drink well for another 8-12 years.-Tom Hyland, Forbes
The Podere Forte 2015 Orcia Petrucci Melo gives us a nice look back into time. Drinking beautifully right now, this aged Sangiovese has only just started to show tertiary notes of tar and licorice. Otherwise, the fruit is intact and you get plum, dried cherry and blackcurrant. The tannins are integrated into the wine's medium-weight texture, and the finish is quite open and accessible. The secret here is the high-elevation vineyard (at 526 meters above sea level) and its unique mix of limestone soils and clay. Both these factors help underline freshness. Only 2,644 bottles exist. Nice job.- Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
The 2015 Petrucci Melo entices with a spicy blend of sour cherries, savory herbs, worn leather, allspice and clove. This washes across the palate like pure silk, refined and elegant, with depths of mineral-tinged red fruits guided by brisk acidity. Rosy inner florals form toward the close. This tapers off youthfully tense with edgy tannins that still require time to soften, as hints of licorice and sage slowly fade. Further cellaring will be required for the Melo to come fully into focus, but it will be time well spent.- Eric Guido, Vinous Media
Very ripe expansive forest fruit, clove, leather and walnut aromas on the nose. Big sweet tannins on the palate.-Decanter World Wine Awards
